Announcing the passing of Hansadutta das

With great sorrow we report that Hansadutta das has left his mortal shell, as of today, 25 April. In recent months he had been suffering from acute pancreatitis, but in late March it was discovered that he had advanced cancer of the pancreas. Hansadutta, who would have been 80 in May, spent his final days chanting and sometimes singing the holy names alternating with listening to Srila Prabhupada's lectures.

Last month I was in Vrindaban and visited Srila Prabhupada’s rooms at Radha-Damodara temple. This time, there was a piece of paper lying on the table in front of Srila Prabhupada’s murti. I bent down to read it. It looked like a facsimile of a letter from Srila Prabhupada. All the more so, because of a pen placed in Srila Prabhupada’s hand. more →

DOM is a sideshow – BBT is at the center

Just yesterday, Praghosa Prabhu forwarded a copy of his email to Rocan das regarding the GBC and the Direction of Management (DOM). This is a discussion as to the constitution of the GBC and managerial duties related to ISKCON and their relationship with the BBT. There are devotees who think that all that’s dysfunctional within ISKCON can be fixed by reforms to the GBC, putting new guidelines in place, setting up committees to watch over the GBC members and make sure they perform their duties, etc. The call for implementing the DOM – whereby GBC members are elected by temple presidents – carries the same expectation, that all of ISKCON rides on the GBC.

But something is missing from this picture. And that is the BBT. ISKCON will never be right again as long as the BBT is not put right. The two are separate, yet BBT at the core of ISKCON. Humpty Dumpty cannot be put together again without the heart beat. more →

I owe it to Srila Prabhupada and to the devotees, to yourself, as having been appointed by Srila Prabhupada to act as trustee for life, to clarify what happened with the BBT.

In your post “Copyrights Transferred to the BBTI?”, published up on the Sampradaya Sun, you’ve understood correctly that BBTI is not the same as Prabhupada’s BBT. BBTI (Bhaktivedanta Book Trust International, Inc.) is a California corporation (non-profit) that was registered in 1988, in a deliberate attempt to bypass the legal trust. more →

It is the function of the disciples to confirm the instructions of the spiritual master, and give assistance to the new candidates. It is not their function to use Srila Prabhupada’s books for alluring new candidates to increase their personal following, as it seems to be the case today.
